Torpid is a pavilion designed from PVC plastic cabling, a by-product of demolition sites. The project called for the use of a pavilion to showcase how a discarded material can be re-imagined to create new environments for performances of dwelling. Torpid challenges the need for people within spaces to create and change atmosphere.
The three dwelling moments withinTorpid are created by weather patterns.
PVC plastic is the main offender of plastics, it creates toxicity at every stage of its production process. It has stripped nature of health and demanded oppressive control over ecosystems. My intent for this design was to allow for nature to have control over one part of this materials lifecycle. Rain dwelling will curate a different atmosphere to wind dwelling and again for sun dwelling, and while those who are engaging with the space will understand the atmosphere through their own lenses, one has to trust that the atmosphere will remain when one is removed from the space.
